Sustainability/Environmental Statement
The paintings are meant to provide years of joy and interest.
Steps to reduce energy use in the studio: Much of the art work is completed on site. Measures have been taken to upgrade insulation, lighting, and the general use of utilities. The space is enrolled in the energy provider’s renewable energy program. Materials: Mostly cotton canvas, pine stretchers, water (all renewable resources), a relatively small amount of metal hardware, and paint. Some items have been created on repurposed materials or with supplies outside typically used media. The focus is on the quality of finished pieces.
Primarily, paints purchased by the studio do not require warnings on the label. When painting with (linseed) oil, the use of solvents is minimized. A limited amount of varnish/fixative/mats/frames, are used to give the paintings suitable display qualities and longevity. Even as a prolific painter, this artist's life’s work, to date, involves a modest amount of materials and space.
Modes of transportation: Much time is spent on foot. Though automotive and air travel are sometimes necessary, rail or other shared services, are often preferred, when available.
Delivery of paintings: Many sales are handled in the studio's Baraboo community, in-person, and require little transport. Other pieces are shipped in customary fashion. In these cases, the policies of the carriers determine environmental impact. Careful handling is typically the most important consideration.
Removal of barriers to access
Studio visits are customized. Advising of pertinent special needs, when scheduling a visit, can help client and artist alike to be more prepared from the outset. Teaching presentations are designed to reach the audience.
Mobility: Ramped approach; an entry threshold is approximately 2” high x 32” wide, for which an additional ramp can be provided. Zero clearance access to restroom.
Limited Baraboo “house calls” can be arranged. Some pieces are also showcased online. Please contact the artist to explore options.
